Fibromyalgia is a disease diagnosed solely based on symptoms. The condition affects the musculoskeletal system, although symptoms may span across multiple systems in the body. The disease does not affect the body's internal organs, but the pain can be debilitating, keeping some patients from working or performing day to day tasks.

There is no known cause of fibromyalgia, but many patients develop it after suffering a personal injury of some kind, such as an auto accident injury or a sports injury. Most patients are women between the ages of 35 and 55, although the disease can affect both sexes and people of all ages. There is also no cure for the disease, but some people find it easier to cope with the pain and manage symptoms by visiting a chiropractor.
